The Premise
We encourage our Year 9 students to apply to become a Young Leader from around Easter. Each student fills in an application form in order to practice filling in forms and those who wish to apply submit them to their year leader. The applicants that are deemed to be a cut above the rest are invited to an interview to explain what they'd bring to the role.
The students who are successful in their interviews are invited to a residential where we take two and a half days away and focus on identifying their skills and qualities and areas of weaknesses, encouraging that these are worked upon as a part of the Young Leader Initiative and highlighting their new status as role models to younger students.
The highlight them in and around school they are invited to buy a blue hoodie with their name on. A class full of them looks fantastic and it's great to see them taking pride in their role.
Throughout Year 10, the students act as a pool of students to help with school events and become involved in school activities. Many take part in the Numeracy & Literacy programme, World Book Day, transition days and open days - as well as target setting days and parents evenings.
Truthfully - they are a total credit to the school.
