
After 16 years and 26 weeks in various secondary mathematics classrooms in inner-city Leeds, I have accepted a role as Head of Curriculum for Maths at AQA as Andrew Taylor retires (March '24).
I have enjoyed roles as Teacher of Mathematics (West Leeds High School, Swallow Hill Community College, Mount St Mary's Catholic High School), TLR Holder (Mount St Mary's Catholic High School), Joint Curriculum Leader (Mount St Mary's Catholic High School), Maths CPD Lead (Complete Mathematics) and Lead Practitioner of Maths and Teaching (Leeds City Academy), and have absolutely loved working with the most caring, funny and curious pupils and created some lasting friendships with amazing colleagues.
Each school had its own challenges. As WLHS closed, SHCC opened - a merger between WLHS and Wortley High School. MSM had outcomes of 38% C+, which by 2022 had progressed to 75% 4+ - an excellent 13-year journey that I couldn't have been prouder to have been a part of. MSM was top in the city for Progress 8, and in the top ten nationally for cohorts with over 40% disadvantaged pupils. LCA is an expanding school with outcomes of 43% 4+, and plenty of scope for improvement.
I am excited for my new role, and what the future brings.
